Sukkot at Hillel

We've been busy at Hartford Hillel recently, earlier this week we had Yom Kippur services on campus which many students came to, and we had Break-the-Fast which is always a big success-how many pounds of lox does it take to feed Hartford Hillel?
8 pounds...oh yes.
Wednesday our FYSH (First year Students of Hillel) made decorations for the Sukkah, and yesterday we built the new Sukkah- it looks fabulous! We're looking forward to having Shabbat Services with parents and students tonight, followed by dinner in the Sukkah.
Check our excellent constructions skills below:

FYSH Week 2009

Welcome Freshmen & New Students!
Hillel has had an exciting few days on campus, our student Executive Board returned and we had a great time planning events for the upcoming year.
Our FYSH events have been a huge success, the Drop in Kosher Luncheon survived the rain, we enjoyed the Ice Cream Social on Sunday night, and Everything FYSH & Tie Dye, was a giant hit as always; So many students came to tie dye their FYSH shirts, we almost ran out of T-shirts!

Keep checking out the blog for more Hillel happenings, and join us at our next two events:
Wednesday, 9/2/09 Goldfish Booth at the Carnival in Alumni Plaza
$2 for a mini aquarium! 5 p.m.-10 p.m.

Friday, 9/4/09 Schmooze Hour @ 5:30 p.m. in Hillel

New Photos at Flickr

We at Hillel are still busy even though it's the summer.
We met many wonderful freshman at the orientation sessions and are working with the FYSH (First Year Students of Hillel) advisors to plan FYSH Week, the first week of school that is full of events.
Part of our fun filled summer is posting all the pictures from this past year on our Flickr page, so check them out here.

Hartford Hillel wins awards!

Hartford Hillel recently won two awards for its outstanding program during the 2008-2009 academic year.

On April 19th, Hillel received the Student Organization Award from the Student Affairs Division at the University of Hartford. The ceremony's program described the Student Organization award as follows: "This award recognizes up to two organization which have made the most significant progress since the beginning of the academic year. Selection is based on the organization's demonstration of a strong and active membership, successful programs, and overall contribution to the University."

Last evening, the Government Association at the University of Hartford named Hillel the Most Consistent Student Organization. This award one of only four awards presented to student organizations by the SGA each year.

Congratulations to the 2008 & 2009 student board, as well as Elyse Miller and Nicolette Theriault, Hillel's student engagement intern and program director for their outstanding work!
